It’s August 4. This means the blogging conference I registered for on New Year’s Eve 2015 and talked a little bit about here starts in a few hours. In fact, by the time you read this (August 5) – it will be in full swing! Zoinks! I’m not ready! Seriously though, I knew it was coming but something interesting happened when Charlie was born…I gave over a few more brain cells to the mommy vacuum and time started flying by a little bit faster. Honestly, this conference snuck up on me faster than my son can flip over on the changing table (trust, it’s fast.)
HOW I GOT TO BE A NON-BLOGGING BLOGGER
Unfortunately since the end of my last blogging challenge (April A to Z), I’ve not written a single word for this baby of mine. My other babies have been taking up too much of my time, and I’ve been neglectful of this one. I notice this seems to happen to me at the end of every challenge I do. You’d think I’d have learnt by now that blogging every day is not the right pace for me, even for a short sprint of a month. I’ll make an exception in November, but I think that was the last challenge that I will be doing for a while….or ever (I don’t like to say never.)
wHAT I’VE BEEN DOING INSTEAD OF BLOGGING
As I said, this baby’s been put on the back burner because I’ve been doing other things like…
Going back to work part-time. Yep, that happened a few days before I last posted on here. I’ve consistently been working 2-3 days a week as a substitute teacher since the end of April. It’s been great seeing my friends and my kids again. It’s also been great not having the responsibility of being a full-time teacher. For now, this works while Charlie is young, Maya needs me a bit more and now has me, and I’m eight billion times less stressed.
Working on helping people find what works for their skin. Nearly a year after I signed on, my side gig is still fun! I’ve met some amazing people and reconnected with old friends. It’s also led me to work on a very important aspect of my life…ME! The personal growth opportunities and inspiration have led me to a path that I think will change my life and those around me for the better.
Having fun times with my kiddos! Like I said, time is flying and I’m so grateful to be able to spend a bit of extra time with them. This summer we’ve gone swimming, bowling, spent time at Grandma’s pool and gone on a day trip to Santa Barbara.
Nothing extravagant, but having the time to do these things is so precious to me.
I saw Sting and Peter Gabriel, and Louis C.K. for my birthday present and the Man’s respectively…

Oh…and we did a little thing….

WHAT WAS SUPPOSED TO HAPPEN BEFORE BLOGHER16
I had a lot of things that I wanted to do with my blog before the blogging conference happened. I wanted to switch over from WordPress.com to .org to have a little bit more flexibility…and I did.
I wanted to change the theme and design…and I did. We won’t talk today about whether I’m happy with how it looks (HINT: I’m not. At. All. Bollocks.)
I had a daydream about how I wanted my logo to look and the header is a pretty close approximation of what that is, thanks to the new Prisma app and a little photo editing of my picture of a zinnia.
I wanted to get business cards to hand out…and I did. But I screwed up. There’s a typo on them and the new ones won’t arrive until next week. ****Head in hands**** — all the new friends I make at the conference are getting them anyway because my pretty logo is on there too and I like everything on them but the typo! And I hate to waste paper!
I wanted to get an e-commerce store up on my blog for things I think my readers might like to have…but the only progress I made there is a bit of research on what I might like to have in the store.
WHERE I’M AT NOW…
So even though I’m not totally ready, I don’t feel my blog is totally ready…I’m going anyway and I’m so excited! I get to see some cool people speak (Sarah Michelle Gellar, Mayim Bialik and Sheryl Crow to name a few) and attend some breakout sessions where I hope to glean some good nuggets about how to make this blog more successful. Speaking of which, I’m getting ready now as I know the morning is always a rush – BlogHer16 here I come!
Well, the man likes the new look, even if you don’t 😛
