I am old. Not in years, and not in spirit, just in the things I used to be able to do, like stay up late and go to concerts, put me out of commission for the next 24 hours. I swear, I have been useless today! The earthquake at four in the morning didn’t help matters, but seriously. Old.
I must keep to my bedtime or a nap is in order. I went down at 2 today (like a toddler, I put myself to bed) and the Man woke me up at 4 o’clock. I feel better now, but still more tired than usual.
At least it was for a good reason though – I got to use my birthday present last night to see those now 40+year-old boys from Boston, NKOTB. My sister spared the Man from having to sit through two hours of boy band hysteria, and for that he was grateful.
It blows my mind the amount of energy they have. They now range in age from 42 to 46, and only the eldest does not have any children. They run around crossing from one end of the stage to the other, dancing and singing, perhaps not as quickly as they used to, but certainly quicker than either my sister or I are moving today, and we range in age from 34 to 39!
Anywho – they were tons of fun, so since I was discussing blown minds, I thought I would share one of my favorite covers that they do, a song originally recorded by The Delfonics in 1969, released as a cover on NKOTB’s first album in 1986, and re-released by them as a single in 1989. The song “Didn’t I (Blow Your Mind)” features Jordan Knight and his falsetto.
Here’s a video of them doing the song many moons ago…I’m pretty sure I still have it somewhere on VHS, except I don’t have a working player to watch it. Me thinks it’s time for the little monkey’s introduction to them…hmmmm….
I personally think they and their voices have aged like a fine wine.
And here’s the original by The Delfonics
