18 years ago yesterday, I left on a plane to study abroad in Italy.  My home for the next few months was the beautiful Tuscan town of Siena. While I was there, I explored nearly the entire boot…but today’s post isn’t about that. It’s about what I didn’t get to see while I was there – Spain.

It’s not that I didn’t get the opportunity to travel. I did. I saw London, I saw France (not too many people’s underpants…do you remember that silly children’s rhyme?), Switzerland, and Amsterdam.  They were all wonderful and it was the experience of a lifetime. Barcelona was very high on my list to visit, but when it came down to it, it was much too expensive to travel there. I had a Eurail Pass, but of course it did not extend to the Italian, nor French Rivieras…it cost more, and it was just money I did not have to spend at the time.

Okay, if I’m being honest, I didn’t have the money to do the travelling that I did either, but we all have our limits, don’t we? At the time, my Western European frontier was Paris – that was as far as I got.

When I returned, I even got a few travel books for Spain, intending on going back to Europe as soon as possible.  Of course, as with many of us, plans change, life happens and I never did make it to Barcelona.

Here it is, looking as pretty as the picture I never got to take…

Such a bother really…but…

I definitely want to go back to see Barcelona, the rest of Spain, and explore the rest of the places I didn’t get to see while I was there.  Perhaps “B” should have been for “bucket list”?

Stay tuned during the month of April to see what other subjects I want to explore…I’ll return to my senses on May 1.
