McConnell’s Ice Cream

A 3 Small Scoop Taster

In the throes of state-testing, file audits, and general strife with certain teenagers who don’t make the connection between working hard and success, I find myself dreaming…dreaming…of ice cream. And not any ice cream, McConnell’s Fine Ice Creams.

We had some this past weekend on our adventure (see, see how I’m building it up?) – and even after two tacos, rice and beans, and an Orange Bang, I still managed two scoops of their Sea Salt, Cream & Cookies in a waffle cone.

Now, I’ve had my share of ice cream. Homemade is delicious, but labor intensive — not worth the hassle on a regular basis, in my opinion. Baskin Robbins is good in a pinch – I do love their Pralines ‘n Cream.  Ben & Jerry’s is fine, and Coldstone is creamy, but a bit of overkill.

McConnell’s is…elevated.  They take ice cream to a place where ice cream should always go, but rarely does.  Creamy, intensely flavorful, but not in a bad way.  The biggest crime of my life was never having this while I lived in Santa Barbara during my college years…it started there, and I only tried it for the first time on our trip there last year – what was I doing all that time?

I was too busy stuffing my face to take a picture this time around, but here is one from our Santa Barbara trip last year — it was delicious.

Just imagine all the ice cream I could have eaten in 4 and a quarter years of college, and with a much faster metabolism.  For shame, Joy. For shame.  I’ll be redeeming myself over and over, any time the weather gets warm.

I'm 42, a remarried mom of an 8 year old girl and a toddler son, a teacher, and a writer. People tell me I tend to be brutally honest and ...tell it like it is, so I had hoped to use this outlet to keep me sane while I got used to my new life as a stay-at-home Mom back when I was home with my daughter....it worked. And it's been therapeutic through the end of a marriage and the emergence of me...
