When I was younger and my Grandma Marilyn was still around, I used to marvel at her ability to make a sweet treat last for days, weeks, maybe even longer. She’d take little bites and then put the rest in the fridge – I used to think this meant she was overly regimented (okay, I still think that mostly)…but as I get older, I realize that in many ways, I take after her, and she had some pretty smart moves.
Case in point, there are few better flavors than sweet, mixed with a little salt. It’s one of my weaknesses. I’ve cut back my sugar recently, so to still allow myself this indulgence, I only really eat dark chocolate these days. In fact, that’s been the case for so long (even before cutting back on sugar) that I much prefer it to milk chocolate. But the best is when it’s mixed with nuts… how does that song go? Sometimes you feel like a nut, sometimes you don’t? It’s the Almond Joy jingle …yeah, that’s it. Well, I always feel like a nut (and nutty for that matter…I’m so punny…okay, I’ll stop now.)
When I was in San Francisco a few weeks ago (three, to be exact), I bought the kids treats, and then I bought us a little treat…Ghirardelli’s Intense Dark Sea Salt Soiree bar…as I type the words, I can literally taste the chocolate in my mouth…it’s so good! Dark chocolate, roasted almonds, and sea salt…it really is a party for your taste buds.

Now to be honest, it was mostly my treat. After the first night, I didn’t volunteer to share it (horrible, aren’t I??) If asked, I would have, of course. But the point is, even after sharing probably a 1/4 of the bar, the rest of it lasted 3 whole weeks. Trust me, like the picture says, it does provide several moments of timeless pleasure.
So if you’re needing a pick-me-up, go pick one of these up today…so so good.
Do you still have Halloween candy from last year? lol
Yes, MAYA still has Halloween candy from last year. She takes after her mother, and great-grandmother!
Modern day dark chocolate (because little else matters) is meant to be savored and consumed. Simultaneously. 🙂 Hoarding, rationing and/or depriving is simply not an option.
News flash….you’ve been this way all your life. You’d have Halloween candy left at Valentine’s Day and Easter candy in the middle of July. Drove me nuts!
I was living in a place of lack – I wasn’t positive the next round of candy was coming so I’d hoard! Now it’s different. I ration so my sugars don’t skyrocket 🙂
That’s okay… I prefer Cadbury’s Fruit & Nut anyway… 😀
