For the majority of the week, I’ve had “Friend Like Me” from Aladdin in my head as like many of you I still can’t get over the news of Robin Williams’ passing … but this post isn’t about that song. It’s actually about the song that made that one disappear from my head. Finally!
If you’re familiar with Macklemore and Ryan Lewis, you’ll probably also be familiar with Mary Lambert’s voice, even if you don’t know her name. She was the one who sang on the track “Same Love”…it’s a great song, but her hook stands out and steals it at the end.
This song is called “Secrets” – and the video is as charming as the song is infectious (in a good way.) Sometimes people have asked me, aren’t you afraid of what people might say about what you write? How do you, like, make your work PUBLIC??? Well, Mary Lambert has conveniently answered that question for me:
They tell us from the time we’re young
To hide the things that we don’t like about ourselves
I know I’m not the only one who spent so long attempting to be someone else
Well I’m over it…
I don’t care if the world knows what my secrets are (secrets are)
We may not have the same secrets, but we for sure feel the same way about them. Have a listen…
